What?
Space clearing can be carried out in homes, offices or any premises where there appears to be negative energy. The occupants may not realise that it is negative energy but there may be obvious signs such as illness, depression, people not getting on with each other and general disharmony.
How?
Space clearing ceremonies involve Native American and Eastern rituals and processes that are aimed at clearing the negative energy and making space for more positive and beneficial energy. Often the space clearer suggests that certain items are removed that may be contributing to the poor energy. For instance a picture or other item given to someone by a negative force in their life, or a marital bed which remains in the room after the relationship has broken up.
It helps:
Anyone who feels that since they moved to or started working in a particular building they have suffered from physical or mental ill health, or noticed that things have started to go wrong. It is particularly relevant where there has been illness, death and other adversity in the house.

Every picture tells a story
Dating agencies and Time Out personal columns are full of people looking for someone special to spend their lives with. But according to energy worker and Reiki master, Chris Colgan, many who are seeking love may be living or working in an environment which is blocking them from doing so.
‘Often we are stuck in the past because of the things we keep from former relationships. Parents and ex-partners can have a huge influence on us and however ready we might be to move on, it is difficult when you’re surrounded by possessions which hold you back energetically and sub-consciously. Things like pictures, letters, books, paintings, or ornaments are often chosen by someone else with whom there are still unresolved issues.
‘People often keep things they don’t even like because they were a gift from their parents. As well as the usual problems between parents and sons and daughters, their possessions may also carry the energy of the parents’ relationship with each other.
‘Often people try to start a new relationship in the same bed they shared with a previous partner. I was able to show one couple, who were unable to conceive, that there were more than two in their bed, because it had been chosen by the husband and his ex-girlfriend.
‘When we opened our new call centre a couple of years ago the building used to be a DSS office which we gutted internally and made into an open plan office on two floors. As soon as I moved my staff in they started squabbling and bickering.
‘The office felt odd and not very pleasant even though it had just been totally refurbished. I enlisted the help of some of my team and space cleared the building without the rest of the staff knowing. Almost immediately everyone noticed a change
in the atmosphere and my previously harmonious team reverted back to normal.’
Chris moves around each room feeling the energy of the space and everything in it, using his hands and his senses, and picking out objects which make him feel uncomfortable. Almost always they have their own story to tell, often of troubled or unfinished business.
He frequently senses the energy of a home before he even goes inside. ‘The energy will differ from room to room but very often homes themselves can be uninviting or even actively opposed to a positive relationship or the introduction of children’.
‘I went to one house where I didn’t even want to go into the bathroom, and when I did there was a heavy atmosphere of fear and suffocation. Apparently the owner had bought the property 18 years earlier from an old lady who didn’t go out much and didn’t see people. She died in the bath but wasn’t found for several weeks.’
In homes like these, Chris performs Space Clearing ceremonies, inviting the people in the house to join in. Chris blends together both Native American and Eastern rituals and processes to clear negative energy and make the space more positive and beneficial to the occupants and their new lives.
‘We invoke intention throughout the house for how they would like each room to feel – lively in the dining room, quiet and reflecting in the study, loving in the bedroom, working together to heal their homes. I can also work on the individuals themselves to clear unblocked emotions internally, allowing them to move on in relationships and find happiness.’
