‘Headaches, low energy, irregular bowel movements and poor skin are all warning signs that our body is struggling to cope,’ says leading nutritionist, Kim Pearson. ‘Our bodies are naturally designed to eliminate the toxins we consume from the food we eat, water we drink and our environment, but over time our body can begin to feel overwhelmed and we experience a toxic-overload.’

Research carried out on 1,000 people in the UK highlights by Renew Life reveals the impact unhealthy habits are having on the nation’s health, with almost half of Brits claiming to regularly feel low in energy (46 per cent), experience unexplained headaches (32 per cent) and have difficulty losing extra weight (27 per cent).

‘Supporting your body’s natural cleansing power is a great way to boost your health, energy levels and your overall wellbeing,’ Kim continues. ‘Our bodies process toxins every day from the food we eat, water we drink and even the air we breathe, and over time they build up and leave us feeling in need of a re-boot!

‘Doing an annual Cleanse can be life changing,’ explains Kim Pearson. ‘Benefits can include more energy, improved digestion, weight loss, clearer complexion, better sleep and healthy bowel movements. A good cleansing programme is the first step to a healthier you!’

‘Cleansing is when you support your body’s ability to detoxify itself,’ explains Kim Pearson. ‘Many of us confuse cleansing with extreme fad diets and juice cleanses, which can do our bodies more harm than good. Eating lots of fresh unprocessed food, getting plenty of fibre and drinking enough water is the first step, but often our bodies need a helping hand to flush out the build-up which is where a cleansing programme can help.’

KIM’S TIPS FOR CLEANSING

• Fibre: When it comes to cleansing, fibre is a must! Good sources of fibre include whole grains, oats and beans. Fibre assists with healthy bowel functioning by trapping fat and toxins for removal from the body. It also helps to sweep the walls of the bowel clean and provides bulk to strengthen and tone the muscles of the colon1.
• Vitamin D: Our bodies make vitamin D upon exposure to sunlight. Getting at least 10-15 minutes of sunlight each day helps increase our vitamin D level2 which supports healthy and regulated digestion3.

• Processed foods: Avoid overeating processed foods such as biscuits and ready-made meals. They’re typically loaded with refined sugar, trans-fats, preservatives and other ‘no-good’ chemicals that can build up in your body.

• Drinking water: 1.5 – 2 litres of filtered water each day protects the body from contaminants that can be found in tap and bottled water. Keeping hydrated also improves blood circulation and helps flush out toxins from the body4.
